Brush fire shuts down I-20, threatens several homes

TRANSCRIPT: todays dry windy weather certainly didnt help firefighters working to put out a brush fire on i20. i20.it sparked near aiken putting homes in danger today and stopping traffic.news 12s shalah sasse takes us to the scene. scene. aiken county sheriff michael hunt says they dont know how the fire startbut it spread quick. sharise moriarity arriving home from work to a charred and smokeyack yard. the woods was on fire. everythings burned. the yards burned. but thats not all. the fire destoyed her husbands fishing boat and torched his car. not to mention melting a few other things. ings.i was just thankful that the house and everything was fi. because on the way home the flames were so bad, they didnt know if the house had burned down. aiken county sheriff michael hunt says this all started around 3:00 when a brush fire started on i20 at mile marker 27. the aiken county sheriffs office and highway patrol shut down both directions on i20 from exit 22 to re road for two hours. with the wind it was just whipping too out of control to let traffic go through anywhere sely. what started as a brush fire turned into a major fire that jumped from the median across the interstate. its dry, and we had you know about a 1520 mile an hour wind. and with the dry conditions and the heavy wind, it pushes it pretty quick. then the wind pushed the fire into hutto pond road. right in sharises back yard. and shes relieved her house was not damaged by the flames. i believe its a blessing from god. its a miracle. there had to be angels standing guard over every one of these houses because theres no way, humanly possible that these buildings should still be here. here.again, fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire. the sheriffs office says there were no injuries. thanks shalah.here are some pictures of the smoke before the firetrucks got to the flames these are from rhonda storey she lives near hutto pond road where the fire was in front of her house. remember you can always upload pictures to our website wrdw dot com just click the seit shoot it send it icon. still no word on how another fire started today. it destroyed a home on the 500 block on pine log road off storm branch road. no one has lived in the house for the
